When one sprinkler zone stops working but the rest of the system runs normally, that narrows the problem considerably. The failure is often somewhere between that station on the controller and the valve that operates the zone.
Run the zone manually from the controller
Start by confirming that the station is programmed and that the controller attempts to run it. If other zones work normally, the main water supply and controller power are less likely to be the cause.
Check the electrical path
An irrigation controller sends low-voltage power through a station wire to the valve solenoid. A broken wire, corroded splice, loose connection, failed solenoid, or damaged controller terminal can interrupt that signal.
The valve may be the problem
If the electrical signal reaches the valve but water still does not flow correctly, the valve may be stuck, clogged with debris, or have an internal diaphragm problem.
What if you cannot find the valve?
Older valve boxes frequently become buried beneath turf or landscaping. Wire tracing and valve-locating equipment can help narrow down the location without randomly excavating the yard.
