Sprinkler Heads Spray the Sidewalk: How to Fix Overspray and Wasted Water

Water on sidewalks and driveways is one of the clearest signs that an irrigation zone needs attention. Overspray wastes water and can still leave the lawn with dry areas if the sprinkler pattern is poorly aligned.

Start with head alignment

Rotors and adjustable spray nozzles can often be redirected so their arc ends at the landscape edge instead of continuing onto pavement.

A tilted head changes the entire pattern

Heads can lean as soil settles or turf grows around them. Straightening and resetting a head can improve both distance and direction.

Check the nozzle

The wrong nozzle, excessive radius, or a damaged nozzle can create overspray even when the head itself is positioned correctly.

Do not solve dry spots by simply increasing runtime

If coverage is poor, longer watering may send even more water onto pavement. Fix the distribution problem first.
