Watch the zone while it runs
A broken body or fitting can create a geyser, bubbling water, or a large pressure drop across the rest of the zone.
The visible head may not be the only damaged part
An impact can crack the fitting or flexible connection below grade. Replacing only the top of the sprinkler will not correct a leak underneath it.
Check height and alignment after repair
A replacement head should sit at an appropriate grade and spray direction so it is less vulnerable and waters the intended area.
